Breathwork is a general term that can refer to many different kinds of breathing exercises. I work with two different breathwork approaches. One uses a 2-stage (or 3 depending on your perspective) pranayama breath. It is an active meditation which very effectively helps our busy minds let go. The breath itself oxygenates our body stimulating our hypothalamus gland connecting to the nervous system and endocrine system via the pituitary gland. Our blood becomes more alkaline, our body begins to relax and your awareness increases. The results and benefits are not only physical though. This healing modality creates space to release what we carry, clearing our head, supporting our physical systems, and encouraging mental, emotional and physical health. The second approach uses a biodynamic method that uses breath as the driver, offers physical touch and opening through self bodywork, uses your own intuitive movements, vocalization, and meditation. I use the concepts of pendulation and titration to move carefully and slowly, following what is best for each client individually. Getting used to using the breath takes time and willingness. This is not a magic "cure" but a tool that can be honed, deepened, and expanded to provide an extremely personal path for growth.
Benefits can include:
Every experience is different so there is no one way to answer this question. The best approach is to let go of expectations and surrender to the experience, and go in with a spirit of playfulness and curiosity. Each person and each session is unique but some people experience laughter, tears, or insights, they may get hot or cold, or have a variety of different body sensations. None of these or or all of these and more, are normal and safe.
Everyone can use some sort of breath safely yet some types of breathing may need to be avoided for safety. Reasons can include glaucoma, pregnancy, and severe conditions in the following areas: asthma, epilepsy (or history of seizures), high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, mental illness, and diabetes. Please contact me for more details or for questions.
Once you book a session I will send you the info you need to prepare your space for a virtual breathwork session. If you would like to sign up for coaching + breathwork sessions, just coaching, or you have any questions at all please book a call with me first. This will be free and will allow us to make sure we are the right fit for each other and provide space for questions and getting to know each other.
